How an Idea Becomes a MongoDB Feature

July 16, 2018
Presented by MongoDB's Ian Walen at MongoDB World 2018. In the 4.0 release, the 70+ engineers of the MongoDB Server team worked on 46 unique projects ranging from multi-month affairs like Transactions to single day tweaks like improving logging on mongos. This talk will take you through the lifecycle of one such project, $convert, to explain how MongoDB takes an idea from inspiration ("We need type conversions!") to a fully implemented and tested feature ready for release. Along the way you will: 1. Learn about the rigor applied in the scope, design, implementation and test phases of every feature. 2. Learn development processes to consider applying to your own team.
