Illustrating Durability and Elections via Sneakernet

June 21, 2017

Speaker: John Page, Principal Consulting Engineer, MongoDB
Level: 200 (Intermediate)
Track: Operations

John has some important data he needs to save. Unfortunately he only has a very slow and unreliable network on which to set up his replica set, one where packet delivery is far from guaranteed. Follow along, at the speed of a strolling audience volunteer how rollbacks, dirty reads and stale reads can have hilarious or tragic consequences. Discover how MongoDB 3.4 can protect you from these and when and how you should ask it to.

This is a highly unusual presentation: loud, visual, with no slides, a pile of audience participation and hats; there would also be fireworks but apparently this is frowned upon in Chicago hotels.

What You Will Learn:

How to avoid something imported being rolled back.*

How to ensure an election results in the best prepared candidate winning.*

How to avoid #fakedata and find trusted, up to data sources.*

*When using MongoDB
